Policing in Iraq

Michael Yon gives an amazing insight into Policing in Iraq. Corruption, near riots, insurgents are all in a day’s work for Lt Col. Doug Crissman. Crissman is no longer just a soldier it seems, he is also the midwife to the bith of the rule of law in the Iraqi town of Hit. I sometimes wonder if the Stop the War Coalition even consider this type of sterling work.

A good tech lawsuit

May 26, 2007

Blizzard, the developer behind the phenomenally succesful MMPORG World of Warcraft, has announced it is bringing a lawsuit against a gold selling company.

It’s about time they did something. Blizzard can ban players for buying in game gold for “real money” but until now appeared to be doing nothing to stop the growth in such websites. Not only that these sites often use Blizzard copyright materials such as images, logos and the like. And no, not all the gold sellers are based in China.

The first defendant is, peons4hire.com, I just tried to have a look at their site but as Safari was in the process of opening the page it crashed. I tried a few more times but the crashing continued, not only that Quicksilver and Mail crashed too. Perhaps Blizzard have AOE’d the site.

RSS: Not that hard is it?

HOUSE OF LORDS
OPINIONS OF THE LORDS OF APPEAL FOR JUDGMENT
IN THE CAUSE
Beggs (AP) (Respondent) v. Scottish Ministers (Appellants) (Scotland)
[2007] UKHL 3
LORD NICHOLLS OF BIRKENHEAD

My Lords,

1. I have had the advantage of reading in draft the speech of my noble and learned friend Lord Rodger of Earlsferry. I agree with the observations made by him, and for the reasons he gives I would allow the appeal to the extent proposed by him.

LORD HOPE OF CRAIGHEAD

My Lords,

2. I adopt with gratitude the explanation which has been given by my noble and learned friend Lord Rodger of Earlsferry of the background to this appeal and of the circumstances which have narrowed the issues which need to be considered by your Lordships to dispose of it. For the reasons which he gives, with which I am in full agreement, I would allow the appeal and make the order that he proposes.

Nope not hard at all

What no RSS?

May 26, 2007

The English Courts have, in recent years, started putting their judgments online. Here’s the House of Lords’ Judgments webpage.

Why don’t they RSS these pages? The benefits of RSS are widely known. It would be nice if I could subsribe to a judgments feed and scan what’s new using Shrook (my fave reader).

Ok I can understand why the Courts may be slow to adopt something as complex as RSS. But I pay a fair amount a year for Lawtel and I still have to wait for case updates to be sent to me by email once a week. Poor show I say.
